SS Atlantus was one of the only 12 concrete ships built during the World War-I era. However, the ship had a short lifespan and was retired after just two years of service in 1920. The ship drifted from its anchor in a storm in 1926 and since then it has remained in its current place getting depleted day by day. Today, it is visible only on a low tide day at the Sunset beach, New Jersey. It is an interesting story of passing of time, change and transition. This magnificent ship of the past has become a place for the birds to rest in the middle of the sea.

Concrete ships? That’s incredible. I like this one better as a resting place for cormorants. Great photo.

Yes, Concrete Ships, once touted as the future, soon became a piece of historical blunder, I guess.
